Volume one of The Crowded Train is a collage of music featuring songs recorded at the Superunloader studios both new and old with bits and pieces resurrected from the vaults.

The album features both Chad Farran and Chris McGreal; from the band Superunloader, as well as performances from San Diego Musicians Tim Pacheco and Scott Homan of Psydecar, LaTanya Lockett, Unorthodox, Davey Carano from Plump, Carlos Washington from Giant People, John Connelly, John Pacheco, Eric Garcia, Tiffany Turner, and others.

Because of the influences and talent on the CD, the diversity of music shows through right from the start. Tim's vocals are ever present on Pulling Over, telling the tale of a drunken car chase and being thrown in jail, Take Me Away, a combination of vocal talents preaching the world's trials and tribulations, and On A Wing, a mind bending journey through music in flight.

The album was produced and recorded by Chad Farran and features most of the songs written by him. With the use multi instrumentation augmented with tricky time changes and heavy percussive layering, he weaves the songs through constant change. From the marimba, flutes and tabla on People, Bali High and The Methodist to the drum loops and synth tracks of The Prophet, the music keeps the listener interested and intrigued.

Chris McGreal also plays a hand at creating and truly original sound for the album. The guitar work on Pulling Over and People puts an edge on the songs, and the acoustic guitar on Dak Dak transports the listener to another space in time.

The album also features the heavy voice of Unorthodox on Third Eye Open, and the talented vocals of LaTanya Lockett on Take Me Away. The surprise appearances of Davey Carano, Carlos Washington, and Eric Garcia also round out the feeling and diversity of the CD.

The album was recorded with a variety of methods using both ADATs and Pro Tools. All recording was done at Superunloader Studios as well as the mixing on Pro Tools with a Mac G4. The album was finally finished with the mastering techniques of Bob Pantages.
